Optimize your computer, we have all faced performance problems in our Windows machines, even though we have powerful hardware, this happens due to some caches and logs that overwhelm the Windows records.
Let’s see how we can solve this issue and optimize Windows
Clean cache and logs
There are many tools already in our operative system, it is not recommended to install additional tools if we have the basic hardware required, since it may make things worse:
- Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
- RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
- Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS or 20 GB for 64-bit OS
- Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Disk Cleanup
Before running this app, we should close all the applications; otherwise, it won’t clear the data correctly and will execute it as an admin.
Select all of the options in the check box to clear all the cache, click Clean up system files
It will start cleaning the files, select all of the options as well, and click ok, finally confirm the delete files and wait until it finishes
Clear Windows logs
Open the Event Viewer application, and go to Windows Logs
Expand the options, and right-click over each of the subfolders: Application, Security, Setup, and System, select clear log
Select Clear for all, after this, you can close the application
Clear temps
Open the path C:\Windows\Temp in the explorer and delete all of the files inside, you have to do this as admin, and retry for all otherwise continue if some can’t be deleted
Startup applications
We have to ensure that only the required startup applications run when we restart, press Ctrl+Shift+Escape letters at the same time, go to startup, and verify that the applications enabled are only the ones installed by Windows natively, otherwise right-click in the application and select disable
Network connection
If you see that your connection is slower in your device than in others, check for updates and install them
Clear the cache of your default browser by clearing the history of all time, press Ctrl+H and clear files
Defragment (optimize disk)
If you have a hard drive and not a solid-state disk, you can use the defragment and optimize driver application, select your disk which commonly has the letter C assigned, and click on optimize
Settings for best performance
Another way to increase the efficiency is to change the graphics and go to settings > about > Advanced system settings
Click on performance settings, you can disable the animations that you don’t require or to change to Adjust for best performance and click ok
